Addie, Daddy, and the bucket

I left the popcorn bucket out and found Addie stuffing herself into it. She had been sitting inside of it but by the time I found the camera she was on the edge.

Thinking about how to get out of the bucket.

"Any suggestions, Dad?"

... and she's out.

"I wonder if I should..."

"... yes, I should yell about that."

I don't know what this video says about our daughter but it's one of my favorites.

And that concludes the Addie & Daddy Show.

We're Baaaack!

We just returned from NC this morning around 4:30 am. Addison is sick AGAIN, so the ride home was a bit rougher than the trip out. She cried about every 4 hours but once we got some medicine in her she would go back to sleep. Overall, she traveled very well, especially since it took 18+ hours to get home. We're trying to get caught up on sleep today...but she's not really doing a great job of it. It seems that her one year molars are coming in. She doesn't even have any teeth on top-it doesn't make sense! Needless to say, she's VERY opinionated about her situation.

Here are some more pics of our trip:

Playing in Caleb's new sandbox...

We visited a plantation built in the early 1800s. "Miss Independent" like to take off and doesn't even look back!!!

It's really hard to get her to look at the camera b/c she doesn't stand still very long. This is the best shot I could get.

Caleb got to pet a 12 day old lamb as it was nursing off the ewe.

We went to one of Caleb's play groups on Tuesday. Addison didn't make it through story time, but she did a good job of cleaning up at the end. She's really into helping put things up (for now).

At the park one evening

Her climbing is a bit out of control right now. I'm concerned that she might try to climb our bookcases and pull them on top of her. She climbs everything and has absolutely no fear. I'm not concerned about her falling of the bed, couch, or stairs so much b/c she seems to have them down, but she waves caution out the window when she decides to climb.

I'm certain she is what some would consider "strong-willed". She's definately not into cuddling and loving on anyone. She doesn't want to hold anyone's hand and she'll push you away when you try to stop her from doing something she wants to do. She also refuses to "perform" any of her new tricks she's learned. She'll do them for about one day and then you won't see them for a while...I'm not sure why...but I'm sure she does. Right now, she's looking at books and pointing to things. She's babbling about what she sees. It's so cute. I think I'll have to go kiss and hug her and watch her get irritated. :)

Visiting in NC

We're in North Carolina visiting my sister and her family right now. We made the long (16 hour drive) from KC and Addie seems to be adjusting fine to the time change. She was awesome on the road! She pretty much slept from 9 PM to about 6:30 AM, except for waking briefly at each stop.

I'm going to post every couple days so that Micah doesn't miss out on too much while we're gone. The last time we visited, she started sitting up on her own and trying to crawl. He's figuring she'll be reading by the time we get back...ha ha!

"Hi DADDY! I miss you so much. I wish you were here with us!"

Here's our doodlebug just sleeping away in her car seat.

As soon as we got here, Caleb tried on his fireman outfit for us. He's pretting darn cute (and so brave)!

Here's Toby in his mama's arms. He is the cuddliest little thing. We get lots of smiles from him!

Since we've been here, Addison has pretty much refused to stop moving. She climbs up and down the stairs about 18 times a day and climbs in and out of kitchen chairs. She's a one person wrecking crew!

Here are the three cutie pies in the bathtub. Addie didn't want to stay very long. I think she was so tired from our trip.

Caleb got to make Easter/St. Patrick's Day cookies with his Memaw this afternoon.

Addie was zonked out this morning in her bed. We had to wake her for church.

Mom, Dad, and I have been unable to see any KU games down here, so poor Dad is trying everything he can just to hear it. This is probably the first time he has ever missed KU during March Madness. Hopefully they'll keep advancing and we'll get to see them soon.

SOOO BIG!

Besides the colds that Addison and I both have, we've had a great week. Here's a video clip of the games we've been playing:

Addison loves to play with this toy she got from her friend Isaac. Evidently, he liked to sit in the basket that holds the toys too!

Thursday, we leave for North Carolina to visit my sister and her family for 10 days!!! That's going to be fun, but the 18 hour drive to get there will probably be a challenge!

They turned out okay. We're a bit disappointed b/c we didn't get any great shots like we did when she was six months. Her hair was a bit crazy too. I guess it's a blessing that we don't like them all that much b/c we won't spend too much money.

Our little miss seems to be fighting an infection of some kind. She took two naps today and they were each 3 hours long. She also had a fever tonight when we put her to bed, so hopefully that isn't a sign that she's going to lose the fight. Her lips were actually a little bit blue and that concerned me. I called the doctor and the nurse told me to keep an eye on her but that it's probably from the fever. I hope she's right. I think I'm going to be checking on her a lot. Poor baby... please remember her in your prayers tonight!

With the exception of today, Addison has been as busy as ever. We got her one year photos taken yesterday and (of course) the photographer said she'd never photographed a busier one year old. That's what we heard when she was six months old too. It was pretty ridiculous... she wouldn't stay put for anything! I hope we got some good shots. I'll post a link to the proofs when we get them.
She was stinking ADORABLE though...so it wasn't hard to forgive her for her ornery behavior.

Here she is right before we left for her one year photo session. See? I told you she was cute!!!

All smiles on our way to the studio.

Over the weekend: a sleeping baby coming home from a late night out.

Climbing in and out of basket.

Eating times are incredible messy...she's a barrel of fun to clean up!

Getting her fourth tooth. She has no teeth on the top yet. Micah compares her smile to a bulldog's.

That's pretty much our weekend in a nutshell. HOpe everyone else is doing well as you are reading this, especially my brother and sister in Australia. I've been thinking about you all a lot lately. I really miss you and wish we could see each other. For now, I guess this blog is as good as it gets.

Bathroom Update

I mentioned earlier that we had our bathroom remodeled. I'm finally getting around to showing the before and after pics. We haven't decorated anything yet. We're avoiding putting holes in the wall until we absolutely have to. It's very nice and luxurious (for us). It looks like it belongs in a nicer house than ours.
BEFORE

(Addie's modeling TP- I just never learn to keep it out of her reach). Notice the yucky tile floor.

AFTER

Speaking of the bathroom...guess what Addie has started doing when she goes to the bathroom?

Just for fun- Here's a picture of Addie after eating mashed potatoes yesterday.

Ode to Addie- 1 Year Old!

Our sweet baby girl turned one today...it's so hard to believe. We had a fun Valentine's party with our friends and family. She was awesome, although she did keep taking food from her friend Hailey! She wasn't too sure about the cake, which was a bit of a let down, but I'm sure she'll love it eventually. Who doesn't?

This year has been has been a growing experience for all of us (even the dogs). At first, I didn't know what to think of motherhood. Addie was such a fussy little one and I was so worried about being her mother since it seemed that she was unhappy no matter what I did.
But now, I couldn't imagine life without her. She is such a joy! She's smart, busy, beautiful, funny, &
sassy too. I can already tell that God has blessed her with many wonderful traits and talents. What a difference a year makes.

For your viewing pleasure...

Here's a video of Addie performing her newest trick...to the tune of "Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear":

Another trick she is working on is jumping. Her feet don't even come close to leaving the ground, but she laughs just the same. She leans forward and then arches back quickly. At first, I thought she was having a seizure or something serious, but then she giggled a little. Then I figured out that she was trying to jump (so she must have picked it up from the "Baby Song" DVD we had seen earlier that day.

The big birthday is coming up soon...this Saturday!!! Finally, Addie will get to try a piece of yummy chocolate cake and we'll see who she really takes after: mommy or daddy!

Beautiful Baby Contest

She really is beautiful, don't you think?

I was watching "Regis and Kelly" last week and they were talking about their "Beautiful Baby Contest". I entered the picture above. I couldn't help it. It was simple to enter and they are going to show pictures of some of the contestants during the week of Feb. 15. I thought, "What the heck!" Maybe she'll get 5 seconds of fame.

Here are just a few more that I took during our "Photo Session":

Addie is getting her third tooth. It's on the bottom by her other two. Can you see it?

Last week, we found out Addison had Pink Eye. We have no idea where she got that from, but we're glad she's doing better. The eye drops we had to put in her eyes were a joke. She was the master at getting out of our grip or putting up a good fight by squeezing her eyelids shut very tightly.

THis week, we are having our bathroom remodeled (YEAH!!!!!) so it's been kind of loud (and dusty) around here. We've been going over to Dana's house for naps. I guess it's a good thing that she's dropped her morning nap b/c there's no way she could survive on such little sleep in the morning.

We'll post before and after pictures of our bathroom after it's done!
